Appearance-

The hierophant is a pope like figure that's seated in a holy place looking like a church, he is shown giving knowledge or teaching to people sitting in front of him. There are two pillars like the one found behind the priestess, and there lie the keys st the feet of this figure; which signifies that the hierophant has the keys to enter the inner world. The priestess was sitting at the way and there was a tapestry hiding the inner world's secrets but here the theme of the card says that there is already the need to tap into the knowledge of the inner world due to which the hierophant has appeared, he is here to help you find the keys to enter into the inner world.
He has the keys to go to the inner world, or the solution to your problems, or adds knowledge to your lack, which shows by the teaching spirit of the card. He wears a crown on his head suggests his high levels of spirituality that he has reached, his hand has a triple cross again a sign of holyness and hope. His fingers point out upwards show that he is asking to trust in the higher energies, or even bringing the knowledge from the higher realms.

Meaning-

The card means that in this world of learning the fool needs a teacher to help him understand life and how to handle it, with the older time principle to send the child to a guru before he starts to face the world is important. The teaching will help the child to grow into a stronger human being and help him deal with day-by-day difficulties of life.
This may also mean that you need to add some more knowledge to your existing knowledgebase. You may need to learn something to add to your expertise. You can either do this by finding someone who can teach this to you or you yourself can self-learn to attain the mastery.
The card may also point towards inner learning of lessons by oneself, life sometimes leads you to difficult ways and doesn't leave you choices to take help from someone at this time know that you will have to be your own guide your own teacher to help you move further in life.
It may show the need to take help from some counsellor, teacher, or guru who is recognised in their field. It may also show your ability to be such a person who can guide others to have an easy life either a counselling type of work or a tutor in the field you are.

Reverse-

The reverse of hierophant shows that you may not be trusting yourself and letting others impose their knowledge to you. This won't help you as the knowledge that you have is correct or the knowledge that can come from your genius would prove to be beneficial for you.
Additionally there maybe someone who maybe misleading you in your path by their treachery, you need to move away from such people.
Your self-trust or self-confidence would be led down so much that you don't truse yourself and as a result you cannot trust others too. Otherwise life's lessons might be such tough that you might have made grave mistakes and which makes you doubt in your decisions too much and you fear trusting youself. The lessons from life are only to make your trust more and more strong. You don't have to go weak but get more and more decisive and alert while deciding.
